A very rare item and the first we at New England Rarities have ever handled, a rarity in itself! This example shows much of the details remaining, with only some letters of the reverse legends missing, but the whole word America intact. Both sides show groups of even scratches, but they are very old and fully toned down.
Otherwise the color is a nice medium to light brassy brown and the surfaces are mostly smooth and attractive to the eye. The scratches mentioned are light and do not greatly affect the detail especially on the obverse.
Only 20 or so examples are known of this issue in brass, and very infrequently do these pieces ever come to market. It can be multiple years, even a decade between appearances for public sale. Once this piece is sold, it may be a long wait until another comes up, and it most likely would be a far stronger price than the one offered here. A truly great opportunity for the colonial specialist to add a highlight rarity to their collection.
