A very nice example of this popular plaque, made by Samuel Black, expert electrotypist, just before the Civil War. This item shows the C.C. Wright Declaration of Independence Medal reverse in the center surrounded by the entire text of the document with all the signatures of the signers on the bottom.
Almost full original silvering exists, with only a few small areas of copper color showing through. Not all were originally silvered, and it is much rarer to find a fully silvered one in nice condition today.
A very rare and desirable item, one that has been popular with collectors for many decades. We once owned President Buchanan’s personal example, given to him most likely by Black himself, though that example, while still in original frame, was greatly water damaged from a flood at the Buchanan Library.
A perfect item for the early Americana specialist to add something of historical importance to their collection.
