A very choice and appealing example of this Vermont copper. This piece has unusually nice color and eye appeal for a Vermont, and its made far more appealing being dramatically overstruck on a 1782 Irish Halfpenny. The full 1782 date is visible along the rim on the reverse, a feature that is almost never seen on the overstruck pieces.
When Vermont coppers are found overstruck, they mostly are seen with very dark or porous planchets. Finding a boldly overstruck piece with the color and surfaces of this example is an extremely rare find indeed! A fantastic piece for the Vermont specialist.
