A well above average example of this scarce NJ die variety. This piece displays nice medium gray-brown color with mostly smooth surfaces. Some striations are visible on both sides, but nowhere near as many as are found on almost every example of this variety. A few marks are scattered throughout, none individually worth mention. A very nice piece that is an upgrade to most in collections today.
Called the Goiter variety based upon the cud that forms at the horse’s neck. Always a popular type, but struck very erratically, resulting in most pieces being on very dark planchets with major striking problems and defective planchets.
