A very attractive original example of this well known major Red Book type. While commonly found as a variety, the Horned Eagle is quite scarce in uncirculated condition. This freshly discovered piece is one of the finest known for the die variety. It features choice darker brown color with ample amounts of original mint red luster on the obverse and reverse. The strike is very crisp with all the details razor sharp.

The Horned Eagle variety is named for the die break above the eagle’s head on the reverse that is present on every known example of this die variety. As such, it is listed as a Red Book variety and carries a small premium over other Ryder numbers.
