1786 NJ Maris 16-L Protruding Tongue PCGS XF40

An attractive example of this popular Red Book type. This coin is a very nice lighter brown with some areas of darker natural toning, leading to very pleasing eye appeal. A few very light natural striations are seen on the obverse, and only one small mark on the obverse is mentioned for accuracy sake. A very difficult variety to find in choice condition above the VF grade level.

The Protruding Tongue variety has always been popular with collectors. It gets its name from a small die break that forms at the horse’s mouth, giving the impression the horse is literally sticking out its tongue.

A perfect upgrade for the NJ specialist as well as a wonderful example for the Red Book type collector.
